Today, March 15, 2019, the HSLANJ Group Licensing Initiative’s 2019 Spring Offer is available (click here)!

In 2002, the HSLANJ Group Licensing Initiative debuted as the first consortium of its kind in the nation, specifically aimed at reducing the cost of electronic resources for medical librarians in New Jersey.

Through the years, the GLI has expanded its partnerships and negotiations to offer participation throughout 20 U.S. states plus Washington, D.C. and the territories of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

But librarians remain at the heart of our work. We negotiate with vendors on librarians’ behalf. We strive to offer quality resources to support librarians’ work. And we rely on a GLI committee of medical librarians. Positive feedback from participating medical librarians is the icing on top of the cake!

I remember learning about the existence of the consortium in 2012 and I asked Robb about the possibility of participating back then, so I was praising it even before it expanded here [to the SE/A Region].

We simply need the best pricing possible and without the consortium negotiating prices, we can’t afford things.

Electronic has brought on a complicated crazy world and anything that helps us with the process is great. I don’t have time to shop around; I don’t have much time for the acquisition side.

I hope it spreads nationwide and gets bigger and bigger. Robb’s done a phenomenal job—it’s been amazing to see all the things he’s been able to offer.
