Robin Siegel, Medical Librarian, CentraState Healthcare System, Freehold, was awarded the Health Sciences Library Association of New Jersey’s Health Sciences Librarian of the Year award at the HSLANJ Annual Business Meeting held at the New Jersey Hospital Association on April 3rd.

In her nomination letter, Pat Regenberg, Manager, Library Services, Overlook Medical Center, said, “Robin is highly respected by her colleagues both locally and nationally. If you call her, there is no hesitation to offer help. She goes above and beyond whether it is for her internal staff, patients, or colleagues. She will always go the extra mile to find answers to their questions and is a highly skilled and dedicated librarian.”

Robin has been an active member of the association for over 30 years, has served on the board and various committees, and has served as president in 2004-05.  She currently serves on the New Jersey State Library’s Database Advisory Committee, currently serves as treasurer of the Hospital Libraries Section of the Medical Library Association, and has served as special library representative to the Board of the Central Jersey Regional Library Cooperative.  Currently, Robin is co-chair of the HSLANJ Group Licensing Initiative, which provides cost savings on electronic resources for medical libraries in 15 states.

Along with her regular duties as librarian, Robin also steps outside her library walls and participates on various committees and works on special projects.  She participates in Nursing Skills Day, and in 2005 was presented with a “surprise award” for her outstanding service and support to the hospital’s medical staff.

Deborah Magnan, Associate Librarian, HackensackUMC, said that Robin is very enthusiastic about medical librarianship and HSLANJ.  “She is a role model for others to emulate as a librarian,” said Magnan.
